Best season so far! (our 7th)

Written by Time Indaiatuba at 16:07 26/2-2019

  Targets from last season:
   1 - Get a top-9 finish in a classic (passed twice)
2 - Win the sprinting competition in a tour (passed)
   3 - Don't drop below Division 4 (passed)

Our 7th season was by far our best ever. We broke into the top 100 for the first time (finishing 94th), more than doubled our previous best points total (1208 points, previous best 597), and won our first jersey by taking home the sprinting crown at the Norway Tour.

All this success was thanks, in no small part, to the acquisition of our new sprint captain Kirby Abner. Abner managed to cross the line first in 3 races and score points in a further 16, pulling us out of division 4 before cementing our position in the 2nd division.

We started the season without a sprint team, but were able to slowly buy support riders like Herbert Hocking and Ted Bouma.

All this sprint success meant that previous captain Mark Turnbow had to take a back seat, riding a lot of races in support of Abner, but he was still able to score some points, earning 2 results in division 2 classics Lappi Sea GP and Grasse - Toulon. Hillclimber Rubert Smidt also proved that he is able to score points in division 2 with a few decently placed finishes.

Looking to the future, I think the team is going to slow down a little. Until now, our goal has been to climb the divisions scoring as many points as possible. For the next season I'd like to enter the Volta ao Porto, looking for some sprint results but not expecting much without a top form, then refresh Abner and Turnbow's top forms in order to focus on a few specific races in the future.

Thinking more long term, I'd like to focus on ways to build the team so we can make a concerted effort to reach division 1 in a few seasons (and stay there). But for now, I'm happy to float between divisions 2 and 4 while targeting some specific races.

   Points: 1208

Rank: 1st in Brazil, 94th in the world

   Wins: 4
   Results: 11

Rider of the year: Kirby Abner
  Best domestique: Mark Turnbow

  Targets for seasons 48, 49, and 50:

  1 - Win a classic

2 - Find a new captain who can challenge in tours

  3 - Break into Division 1
